    The Edge of Light

    by muse

The ghost was throwing leaves again.

This story began life as a red leaf I picked up on my walk to work at a time of year when all of the other leaves were green. Every morning, more leaves would be scattered across a restaurant’s driveway and into the street. I collected them in a dish on my work desk and would watch them fade over the winter until the plant had new leaves to share. The idea came to me of a ghost that could only communicate by throwing leaves. I thought it would be a fic at first and tossed around sheith and wangxian ideas, but Noa introduced himself and that was that. He’s part of a larger universe and I hope he’ll be happy in another story.

I always thought this would be a novel but it came out as a short story. Its working title was Red Leaves until I chose its current title from the lyrics of Red Swan by Yoshiki.
